ACHIEVING WHAT YOU WANT WITH THE ABILITIES YOU ALREADY HAVE

I want to refer a book entitled "TAPPING POTENTIAL" by Kenneth J. Lodi. The author states that all of us are born with large reservoirs of untapped potential. Sometimes in life we are faced with problems of having to do more, earn more, or learn new skills. The problem is we cannot meet these demands and find ourselves unable to release our full potential for best results.

This book will help us find and tap our hidden reserves of potential that would otherwise lay dormant. It is this utilization of abilities that closed the gap from what we were to what we want to be.

In this book, we will learned to :
  • Apply the extra 10% to distinguish yourself from the crowd- Individuality and going the extra mile can make the difference between staying in a comfort zone of mediocrity or fully developing your potential.
  • Adopt a positive approach for change and personal development- You shorten the cycle of tapping your potential when you are proactive. Create the sense of urgency to make things happen. Your behaviour and decisions will determine whether or not you can stay in control of your life and have an impact on the future.

  • Evaluate current belief systems and make them more constructive- Tapping your potential involves focusing on the good side and believing that you can. It is only made possible if you can persevere; and perseverance is affected by your perception.

  • Understand your values and motivators to discover what you want- If your goals and dreams are not value-driven, you will not tap your full potential. Identify your priority in life.

  • Put plans and strategies to paper with an eye on the future- Having the goal on paper allows you to visualize what you specifically want to achieve, and better plan the intermediate steps needed for its completion. Do something each day that improves your chances for future success.

  • Learn to follow the MOST formula- MOTIVATION- knowing why you want to pursue your goal , creates a sense of direction and focus. OBJECTIVE- a complete picture of what you want on a specific date on the future. STRATEGY- the how or detailed approach and task needed to complete the goal. TIME FRAME- choosing the best dates in your day planner for implementation.

  • Break old routines and habits and replace them with much more effective ones- Clear away the number of little things to create time for the important things. Overcome fear for trying something new. Don't limit the number of experiences available by doing the same things over and over. The benefits of leaving the comfort zone often outweigh those of staying in a comfort zone.

  • Learn why being a TQP (Total Quality Person) is the only way to go- Dr. Deming's theory states that the quality of work is very much a result of the quality of the process by which it is produced. We need to change how we are in order to improve who we are.
All of these skills and others are discussed to help you achieve what you want with the abilities you already have.

WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK IN ALL OF YOUR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
